Egg Tempera

Egg tempera is one of the oldest recognized free standing paint media (meaning a painting that can be picked up and moved unlike a cave painting or fresco). I make my own egg tempera paint and apply it to a specially prepared panel using the traditional ink underdrawing and layers of cross hatching technique. Egg tempera's translucent quality and opportunity for minute detail allows a unique texture and luminosity that you will not see in oils. I enjoy working on a small scale and strive to achieve an abstraction in my marks that can be seen only when examined closely.
